Introducing the New Kahele OC1 by Puakea Designs

For those who have read our articles that explore the Ehukai vs. the KaheKai, and Ares vs. Anteres Impressions, you know we have always enjoyed learning about the the new innovations and trends in OC1 design. Well John Puakea and Puakea Designs has struck again with a new design, this time called the Kahele! Designed to be shorter and more maneuverable, ideal for small paddlers but still rideable for bigger paddlers due to some new design innovations. And better able to get in between the troughs! We can't wait to learn more and post as we get it from the California reps and Puakea team. Meanwhile stay tuned for a comprehensive fact sheet, and enjoy their recent description below.

Puakea Designs - Kahele

From Puakea Designs...

Lighter. Stronger. Faster...and now Shorter. Introducing Kahele, a dynamic new OC1 design by Johnny Puakea.

Shorter length at 19'.3"
Wider around center at 16"
Plumb bow and optimized waterline
Footwell cover, multiple rudder options
Comfort-focused cockpit (same as the Kahe Kai)
Available in Pro Model + Standard Performance 100% Carbon Layup

Pronounced: KA.Heh.Leh

At 19'3", the new Kahele pairs the manageability of less size with a progressive approach to canoe design. The Kahele is designed for improved efficiency by eliminating length in the nose and tail of the canoe. The Kahele features an optimized waterline of about 19 feet.

Kahele, meaning "to move", is easy to manage both on and off the water. Although appealing to lighter paddlers looking for less to move around, Kahele also stands out for paddlers of all sizes due to its revolutionary design. It's compact, maneuverable size enables it to catch swell and jump over the bump in front with less effort. It also fits neatly in the trough between bumps so you don't get stuck and lose momentum.

"The Kahele is a canoe designed to be in harmony with its environment, not controlled by it."

The first Kahele's will be arriving in Hawaii and California January 2018 for demo. Taking orders for February and March 2018 shipments now!

San Diego CoastKeeper Non-Profit Announcement for Quarter 3 Paddlers Pledge

San Diego CoastKeeperCali Paddler is excited to announce San Diego CoastKeeper is the newest recipient of the Paddle Pledge.

For those of us who paddle, whether it’s on a bay or lake, on a river or out in the giant blue ocean we know how important clean water is, not only to us but to the rest of the environment. As a community of paddlers, we are aware of the problems our waterways face when it comes to pollution. My home turf(water) is Mission Bay in San Diego. Anyone who knows San Diego knows about the trouble Mission Bay has had over the years with pollution. Nothing like being out on the bay in a canoe our on a SUP and thinking to yourself, “I’ll be fine as long as I don’t fall in”. That’s not the way I want to paddle. That’s why CaliPaddler is proud to partner with San Diego CoastKeeper.
